Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College Writers Conference Set for March 31 – April 2

NEW TOWN, NORTH DAKOTA — The second annual Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College Writers Conference is coming to New Town, North Dakota from March 31, to April 2, 2016.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Indigenous Aesthetic.” Authors and artists were selected for their incorporation of American Indian Culture, news, identity and heritage in their creative works.

Sessions will allow for artists to cover their work along with hands-on workshops in poetry, fiction, digital storytelling, media and music. Sessions are facilitated with artists partnered with NHSC faculty and students. Evening sessions will include readings and performances by authors, artists and community members.

This year’s conference features authors Anton Treuer (Everything you Wanted to Know About Indians but Were Afraid to Ask), Gyasi Ross (How to Say I Love You in Indian,) poets Denise Lajimodiere, R. Vincent Moniz, musician Jacki Bird, journalist Mark Trahant, screen writers and digital storytellers Migizi Pensoneau and Justin Deegan.

Registration ranges from $25 for students to $150 for the full conference. Sessions will be held at the main campus in New Town, located at 220 College Drive.
