WINSLOW, ARIZONA – A vigil for justice for Loreal Tsingine, 27, will be held to today in front of the Winslow Police Department in the border town, Winslow, Arizona.

The vigil is scheduled for today, April 2, 2016, at 3:00 p.m.

Tsingine is the slain Navajo woman who was brutally shot and killed by Winslow Police Officer Austin Shipley on Easter Sunday.

Shipley was one of two Winslow police officers who attempted to apprehend Tsingine in response to a reported shoplifting at the Circle K.

The police press release reads, “while attempting to take the subject into custody, a struggle ensued. The subject displayed a weapon which the responding officer perceived as a substantial threat. The officer discharged his weapon resulting in the death of 27-year-old Loreal Tsingine.”

The killing is being investigated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Navajo Nation President has called for an independent investigation to take place.
